Traffic Diversions on Lagos-Badagry Expressway Begin Dec. 22.

The Lagos State Government has announced plans to implement traffic diversions starting December 22, 2024, as part of ongoing repairs on the Lagos-Badagry Expressway. The diversions aim to improve road conditions and ease traffic congestion in affected areas.

According to Lagos State Commissioner for Transportation, Oluwaseun Osiyemi, the diversions will impact key routes, including Iganmu Bridge (Lagos-bound), Eric Moore Road, Babs Animashaun Road, and Baale Junction (Badagry-bound). The announcement was made via a statement on Friday, as reported by the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN).

The repairs will focus on the stretch from Alagba Junction to Baale Junction on the Badagry-bound service lane and are scheduled to take place from December 22, 2024, to January 22, 2025.

“The Lagos State Government will begin repair work on sections of the Lagos-Badagry Expressway, including Iganmu Bridge (Lagos-bound), Eric Moore Road, Babs Animashaun Road, and Baale Junction (Badagry-bound),” the statement read in part.

It added that the repairs would be carried out in phases. Phase one involves repairing the stretch from Alagba Junction to Baale Junction on the Badagry-bound service lane. This phase will run from December 22, 2024, to January 22, 2025.

Alternative Routes for Motorists

To minimize disruptions and ensure smoother traffic flow, the government has provided alternative routes for motorists.

  • Motorists heading toward Orile Community from Iganmu Bridge (service lane) will be diverted to Alagba Street. They can then connect to Imalenfe-Alafia Street, leading to Savage Lane and Baale Street.
  • Drivers continuing their journey from Baale Street will be directed to Kekere-Ekun Street or Tokosi Street, allowing them to rejoin the Lagos-Badagry Expressway.
  • Motorists traveling from Iganmu Bridge to the Apapa-Oshodi Expressway will stay on the toll lane, exit at Coker, and connect to Akinwande Street, leading to the Apapa-Oshodi Expressway.
  • Drivers heading toward Badagry can continue their journey using the toll lane, minimizing delays.

Future Updates and Public Appeal

The Lagos State Ministry of Transportation assured residents that details of traffic diversions for subsequent phases would be announced as repairs progress.

Motorists and commuters are urged to remain patient, plan their journeys accordingly, and adhere to the new traffic patterns during the construction period.

The government reiterated its commitment to improving Lagos’ road infrastructure, ensuring safer and more efficient transportation for all road users.
