Tinubu Reaffirms Commitment to Economic Reforms

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has restated his administration’s commitment to reforming Nigeria’s economy for the benefit of all citizens, acknowledging the temporary difficulties these measures may cause.

Speaking at the 48th convocation ceremony of Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), Ile-Ife, Osun State, Tinubu, represented by his Special Adviser on Economy, Dr. Tope Fasua, emphasized the necessity of the reforms for the country’s long-term growth.

“Our reform policies aim to make Nigeria work for everyone, but the pains that come with these changes must be endured for now,” Tinubu said, as reported by The Nation.

The president assured Nigerians that he understands the challenges posed by the current economic situation and expressed empathy for those affected. “I am not unaware of the harsh economic realities facing our country, nor do I take pleasure in causing pain or anguish to my fellow citizens,” he stated.

Tinubu attributed some of the economic hardships to the policies of previous administrations, which, he said, failed to yield widespread benefits. However, he refrained from blaming past leaders, stressing the importance of building on their legacies without finger-pointing.

“We have accepted the assets and liabilities of our heroes past, without apportioning blame or accusing any individual or group,” Tinubu noted.

He appealed for patience and cooperation from citizens, urging them to view the challenges as necessary steps toward achieving a better future for Nigeria. The president reiterated his administration’s dedication to ensuring a brighter, more inclusive economic landscape for the nation.

Tinubu’s remarks come amidst widespread public concern over rising inflation and other economic pressures. His administration’s policies, including subsidy removal and currency reforms, have sparked debates about their immediate impact on Nigerians. Nevertheless, Tinubu continues to advocate for collective resilience, assuring the public that the reforms are vital for sustainable progress.
