Richard Mofe-Damijo’s “Radio Voice” Opens with N34.7 Million at Nigerian Box Office

Nollywood icon Richard Mofe-Damijo (RMD) has made a powerful debut as an executive producer with his new film Radio Voice, which grossed an impressive N34.7 million in its opening week at the Nigerian box office. The earnings, tracked from April 11 to 17, were confirmed by the Nigerian Box Office data service, signaling a strong start for the film.

Radio Voice marks a significant milestone in RMD’s illustrious four-decade career. The project is the first from his production outfit, RMD Productions, and is co-produced by Blessing Jessica Obasi and Yolanda Okereke. The film is directed by Isioma Osaje, who also co-wrote the screenplay with Ufuoma Metitiri. It also received support from the Office of the Vice President, highlighting the Federal Government’s renewed focus on investing in Nigeria’s creative and digital industries.

Set in a struggling radio station, Radio Voice tells the story of a former sex worker seeking redemption and a new identity as an on-air personality. Her journey is filled with emotional struggles and professional hurdles as she works to shed her past and earn credibility in a competitive media environment. The film explores themes of resilience, self-reinvention, and the empowerment of women, particularly within the media industry.

The film features a star-studded cast, including Nse Ikpe-Etim, Nancy Isime, Deyemi Okanlawon, Damilola Adegbite, and Timini Egbuson. Shot primarily in English, Radio Voice blends social realism with uplifting storytelling, resonating with a wide range of Nigerian viewers.

Beyond its commercial success, the film is already influencing industry trends. RMD Productions recently secured a key distribution partnership with Nile Entertainment for two major projects: Radio Voice and an upcoming title, Revelations. While Radio Voice is set for continued screening in cinemas across West Africa, Revelations is slated to premiere at a major international film festival before hitting theaters.

With Radio Voice, Mofe-Damijo not only showcases his creative range but also contributes to shaping the future of Nigerian cinema. The film’s success reinforces the growing potential of Nollywood and the impact of storytelling rooted in authenticity and social relevance.
