Former Minister of Education, Oby Ezekwesili, has responded to a public apology issued by Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan. The apology came after Senator Onyekachi Nwaebonyi of Ebonyi North directed insults at Ezekwesili while defending Akpoti-Uduaghan on Tuesday, March 25. The incident sparked widespread reactions, leading Akpoti-Uduaghan, the suspended Senator representing Kogi Central, to express remorse.
Taking to X (formerly Twitter), Akpoti-Uduaghan apologized for the offensive remarks Ezekwesili endured and praised the former minister for her resilience and unwavering principles. She acknowledged the importance of standing by women who continue to advocate for justice and fairness in Nigeria.
In response, Ezekwesili appreciated the kind words and reiterated her commitment to fighting for a just and equitable society. She emphasized that enduring insults is a small price to pay in the pursuit of a better Nigeria, especially for future generations. She stressed that women and vulnerable groups should not inherit the struggles that can be resolved today.
Ezekwesili wrote:
“Very kind words, dear Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan @NatashaAkpoti! Yet to me, a torrent of insults from any source is but a little price to pay in our resolve to see a Nigerian that becomes.
“Our daughters and granddaughters must never inherit battles and wars we should have fought and won for them. An unjust society that silences women and vulnerable people can never Become. We all must refuse that for Nigeria. We STAND ON.”
The exchange between the two women has drawn praise, with many commending their courage and determination to push for positive change in Nigeria.
