Netflix Africa Appoints Kaye-Ann Williams as New Director of Scripted Content

Netflix Africa has announced a major leadership shift, appointing Kaye-Ann Williams as its new Director of Scripted Content. Williams, a seasoned executive with extensive experience in developing African content, will take on the role starting in February 2025.

Williams will oversee the development and production of original African films and TV series, with a focus on local stories that resonate with audiences across the continent and globally. Her appointment aligns with Netflix’s strategy to deepen its footprint in Africa and further invest in homegrown talent and narratives. She will report to Ben Amadasun, Netflix’s Vice President of Middle East and Africa Content.

The announcement follows the departure of Tendeka Matatu, the outgoing Director of Local Language Films, who has left Netflix to pursue new opportunities. Matatu played a key role in shaping Netflix Africa’s initial slate of local productions.

Williams joins Netflix with an impressive track record, having previously served as Head of Scripted Series and Movies at Prime Video/Amazon Studios, where she was instrumental in shaping the platform’s African content strategy, particularly in South Africa. More recently, she held a leadership role at Primedia Studios, overseeing projects such as The Traitors South Africa.

Ben Amadasun expressed excitement about Williams joining the team, emphasizing her ability to create ambitious African television projects and nurture local talent. “I’m delighted to welcome Kaye-Ann to the team as we strengthen our long-term commitment to African storytelling. Her experience and success in bringing local stories to life will be invaluable as we build on the fantastic work done so far,” he said.

With Williams at the helm, Netflix Africa aims to continue delivering compelling African stories that appeal to diverse audiences worldwide.
