Lottery Winner Loses Malibu Mansion in Devastating LA Wildfires

Edwin Castro, the winner of the $2.04 billion (£1.67 billion) Powerball lottery, has lost his £3 million Malibu mansion in the recent catastrophic wildfires sweeping through Los Angeles. The mansion, which Castro purchased just months ago, was destroyed by the blaze, as shown in footage obtained by The US Sun.

Castro’s Malibu property was the third home he acquired after his massive lottery win in November. In addition to the Malibu residence, he owns a £20.7 million mansion in West Hollywood and another home in Altadena.

The wildfires, deemed the worst in Los Angeles history, have caused widespread devastation, particularly in the Palisades and Eaton areas. At least 10 people have lost their lives, with many others injured as the fires rage across thousands of acres. Firefighters have struggled to control the flames, which have spread uncontrollably, leaving destruction in their wake.

The economic damage from the wildfires is expected to exceed $150 billion, highlighting the scale of the disaster. Castro’s loss underscores the indiscriminate nature of the wildfires, which have ravaged communities regardless of their wealth. As Los Angeles works to recover, the fires continue to leave a profound impact on the region and its residents.
