Imo Governor Signs N807 Billion 2025 Budget into Law to Drive Economic Transformation

Imo State Governor, Hope Uzodimma, has signed the 2025 Appropriation Bill into law, approving a total budget of N807.08 billion for the fiscal year. This revised budget, which increased from the initial N756 billion proposed by the Executive, was passed by the State House of Assembly before receiving the governor’s assent. The signing ceremony in Owerri highlighted the administration’s focus on economic development and infrastructural growth.

Governor Uzodimma emphasized his commitment to the budget’s “full and faithful implementation” while noting that the upward revision was a result of collaboration between the Executive and Legislature. “I have just signed into law the 2025 Imo State Appropriation Bill, which will guide our financial operations throughout the year,” he stated.

The budget, titled “Budget of Expanded Economic Opportunities,” is designed to spur economic growth by attracting investors, creating jobs, and developing critical infrastructure. “Our goal is to make Imo State a regional economic leader and a preferred destination for genuine investments,” Uzodimma said.

Budget Allocation Details

The 2025 budget allocates a significant 86.09% (approximately N694 billion) to capital expenditure, reflecting the state’s emphasis on infrastructure and industrial development. The remaining 13.91% (about N112 billion) is dedicated to recurrent expenditure.

Key ministries received substantial allocations to address critical areas of development. The Ministry of Works and Infrastructural Development received the highest share, N297 billion (42.8%), focusing on roads and other vital infrastructure. The Ministry of Transport was allocated N101 billion (14.5%) to improve the state’s transportation system.

The Ministry of Power and Electrification secured N74 billion (10.8%) to expand energy access and reliability, while the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security was allocated N50 billion (7.2%) to promote food production and agribusiness. The Ministry of Education received N49 billion (7.1%) to enhance learning facilities, and the Ministry of Health was allocated N31 billion (4.65%) to strengthen healthcare services.

Legislative Support for the Budget

The Speaker of the Imo State House of Assembly, Mr. Chike Olemgbe, praised the governor’s leadership and vision in crafting a budget aligned with the state’s priorities. He described the document as “well-structured” to address the people’s needs while fostering economic opportunities. Olemgbe also highlighted the Assembly’s swift approval of the bill, which underscored its shared commitment to the government’s developmental agenda.

Through targeted investments in infrastructure, industrialization, and social services, the administration aims to improve the quality of life for residents and position the state as a regional economic powerhouse
