The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has officially announced a new date for the commencement of the 2025 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME). The examination, which was originally scheduled to begin on Friday, April 25, 2025, will now start a day earlier—on Thursday, April 24, 2025. This change was confirmed in a public statement released by the Board on Saturday, April 19, 2025.
According to the official release signed by Dr. Fabian Benjamin, the Public Communication Advisor to JAMB, the rescheduling was necessary to accommodate “essential commitments” involving both the Board and its partner agencies. The statement emphasized that this slight adjustment would allow all stakeholders to better align their responsibilities and ensure a smooth conduct of the nationwide examination.
JAMB further stated that all arrangements for the examination remain in place, and candidates are urged to take note of the new date and prepare accordingly. The 2025 UTME will now kick off on April 24, 2025, and will continue as planned across all designated centers throughout Nigeria.
In preparation for the examination, JAMB has activated its online portal to enable candidates to print their Examination Notification Slips. These slips contain key details such as the exact examination date, time, and venue (centre) for each candidate. Candidates are strongly encouraged to print their slips ahead of time to avoid any confusion or delays on the day of the exam.
To print their UTME notification slips, candidates should:
1. Visit the official JAMB website at www.jamb.gov.ng
2. Click on the “2025 UTME Slip Printing” link
3. Enter their JAMB registration number in the required field
4. Click on “Print Examination Slip” to generate and print the slip
JAMB emphasized that it is the responsibility of every candidate to familiarise themselves with the exact location of their exam centre well before the exam date. This step is crucial to prevent last-minute difficulties such as getting lost, arriving late, or missing the examination entirely.
In addition, the Board reiterated its strict policy regarding examination locations. It warned that no candidate will be allowed to write the UTME in a centre outside the town they selected during registration. Each candidate will be strictly assigned to a centre within their chosen examination town, and any attempt to sit the exam in a different location will not be tolerated under any circumstances.
“Please note that candidates will be assigned to centres within their chosen examination towns; no candidate will be placed in a centre outside their selected town,” JAMB stated firmly.
The Board urges all candidates to comply with these guidelines and take the necessary steps to ensure they are fully prepared. With the date now moved forward, the Board aims to deliver a seamless examination process nationwide.
