The Ogun State Police Command has dismissed claims by controversial singer Habeeb Okikiola, popularly known as Portable, that he is mentally unstable and undergoing psychiatric treatment.
Earlier this week, on Monday, February 17, the police declared Portable wanted over an alleged violent attack on some state government officials. However, in a video posted on Tuesday, February 18, the singer claimed he was a “madman” currently receiving treatment at the Federal Neuropsychiatric Hospital, Aro, Abeokuta.
In response, the state Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Omolola Odutola, made it clear that Portable’s claims would not exempt him from surrendering to the authorities. She insisted that he remains a wanted man and must present himself for investigation.
“Portable will come and submit himself. He cannot be in the psychiatric hospital in Aro. Everybody knows he is a wanted person. If he is in any facility, the police must be informed. He is a wanted man,” Odutola stated.
The police had earlier declared him wanted after an alleged confrontation with three officials from the Ogun State Ministry of Physical Planning and Urban Development, Ota Zonal Office. The affected officials—TPL Onabanjo Abidemi, TPL Raymond Lateef, and TPL Ridwan Oyero Akinlesi—were reportedly attacked while carrying out an enforcement exercise at Oke-Osa, Tigbo Ilu Ota.
According to reports, the officials initially encountered Portable’s father at Odogwu Bar, where he claimed his son was unavailable. However, Portable allegedly arrived later with a firearm and a group of nine thugs, launching an attack on the unarmed officials. The victims sustained injuries but managed to escape and reported the incident to the Ota Area Command.
While nine of Portable’s associates were arrested, the singer fled the scene and has remained in hiding since.
