Real Madrid midfielder Jude Bellingham could face a lengthy suspension following his red card during Saturday’s 1-1 draw against Osasuna. The England international was dismissed in the 39th minute after referee Jose Luis Munuera Montero accused him of using offensive language.
According to the referee’s report, Bellingham allegedly directed an expletive toward him, specifically saying, “F* you.” However, Bellingham disputes this claim, insisting he said, “f* off,” and that the remark was aimed at himself in frustration, not at the official.
Real Madrid manager Carlo Ancelotti supported Bellingham’s version of events, stating, “I think the referee did not understand Jude Bellingham’s English. He said ‘f* off,’ not ‘f* you’… that’s way different.”
The Spanish Football Association’s disciplinary code stipulates that players who insult or offend referees can face suspensions ranging from four to 12 matches. If the ban is enforced, Bellingham could miss key fixtures, including La Liga matches against Girona, Betis, and Rayo Vallecano, as well as the first leg of Real Madrid’s Copa del Rey semi-final against Real Sociedad.
Real Madrid is reportedly considering an appeal to overturn the red card and avoid the potential suspension. The outcome of the appeal will determine whether Bellingham serves the ban or is cleared to continue playing.
