John Dumelo Appointed Ghana’s Deputy Minister for Food and Agriculture

Ghanaian actor, farmer, and entrepreneur John Kofi Setor Dumelo has been appointed as the Deputy Minister-designate for Food and Agriculture in Ghana. His appointment reflects his commitment to agriculture, youth empowerment, and national development.

Dumelo currently serves as the Member of Parliament for Ayawaso West Wuogon Constituency in the Greater Accra Region. Over the years, he has been a strong advocate for agriculture, urging young Ghanaians to consider farming as a viable career path. His direct involvement in crop and animal farming has given him practical experience in the field, making him well-positioned for this new role.

Born on February 3, 1984, Dumelo had his early education at Christ the King School in Accra before moving on to Achimota School, where he was an active member of the Drama Club. He later pursued a degree in Civil Engineering at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) and furthered his education at GIMPA’s School of Public Service and Governance, equipping himself with leadership and governance expertise.

Dumelo’s rise to fame began in the early 1990s when he starred in the 1992 movie Baby Thief as a child actor while still in primary school. Over the years, he became one of Ghana’s most celebrated actors. However, his passion for agribusiness and politics led him to transition into public service, where he has actively championed policies supporting farmers and rural development.

His appointment as Deputy Minister for Food and Agriculture is expected to bring fresh perspectives to Ghana’s agricultural sector. Many believe his experience in farming, business, and governance will help drive policies that modernize agriculture, promote food security, and encourage youth participation in the sector.

Dumelo has often emphasized the need for government support, investment in local farming, and technology-driven agriculture. His appointment has been met with both excitement and optimism, especially among young farmers and agribusiness enthusiasts who see him as an advocate for change.

As he steps into his new role, all eyes will be on him to see how he influences policies, tackles challenges in Ghana’s agricultural sector, and helps build a more sustainable and productive farming industry for the nation.
