Trump to Make History as First Sitting U.S. President to Attend Super Bowl

Former U.S. President Donald Trump is set to attend the Super Bowl in New Orleans on Sunday, February 9, making history as the first sitting president to do so. A White House official confirmed the news to NBC News, highlighting the significance of the occasion.

The Kansas City Chiefs will face the Philadelphia Eagles in the championship game, with kickoff scheduled for 6:30 p.m. ET. This marks the Chiefs’ third consecutive Super Bowl appearance, adding excitement to the already highly anticipated matchup. Trump’s presence at the event will further amplify media attention, given his history of involvement with major sporting events.

In addition to attending the game, Trump is expected to appear in a pre-recorded Fox News interview with anchor Bret Baier. According to Axios, the interview will be conducted at Trump’s Mar-a-Lago estate in Palm Beach, Florida, and will air during the Fox pregame show at 3 p.m. ET. This continues Trump’s long-standing relationship with the network and provides him with a platform to address the nation ahead of the big game.

Trump has maintained a visible presence in the football world in recent months. On January 20, he delivered a virtual address during the College Football Playoff National Championship Game, just hours after his inauguration. He also attended an NFL game between the New York Jets and the Pittsburgh Steelers in October, further demonstrating his engagement with the sport.

His participation in Super Bowl-related events also marks a break from recent presidential tradition. This will be the first time in three years that a sitting U.S. president has agreed to a network interview for Super Bowl pregame coverage. President Joe Biden declined interview opportunities with Fox News and CBS News in 2023 and 2024, making Trump’s decision a notable shift back to past practices.

As Trump prepares to make history with his attendance at the Super Bowl, his presence is expected to draw significant media coverage. The event, already one of the most-watched television broadcasts annually, will likely see an increase in political and public discourse surrounding his appearance. Whether his presence will be met with enthusiasm or controversy remains to be seen, but it will undoubtedly be a moment that captures national attention.
