Elon Musk Appears to Support U.S. Withdrawal from NATO and the UN

Tech billionaire Elon Musk has suggested that the United States should leave both NATO and the United Nations (UN), sparking debate over America’s role in global alliances.

Musk made his stance clear in a post on X (formerly Twitter) after Gunther Eagleman, a political commentator who describes himself as a “Proud America First MAGA Patriot,” wrote on March 1: “It’s time to leave NATO and the UN.”

Musk reposted the message and simply added, “I agree.”

In addition, Musk reposted a statement by Republican congressman Thomas Massie, who represents Kentucky’s fourth congressional district. Massie had called NATO “a Cold War relic that needs to be relegated to a talking kiosk at the Smithsonian.”

Musk’s post comes amid growing calls from Republican lawmakers to reassess U.S. membership in NATO. Some critics argue that the alliance is outdated and disproportionately benefits Europe at America’s expense.

Utah Senator Mike Lee, a long-time NATO critic, has described the alliance as a “Cold War relic” and claimed that it offers “a great deal for Europe but a raw deal for America.”

Musk’s remarks have fueled speculation about his views on U.S. foreign policy, given his influence in both technology and politics. His support for withdrawing from these international organizations aligns with a broader movement advocating for a more isolationist U.S. stance on global affairs.
